The ignition timing in a car is determined by the angle of rotation of the crankshaft from the moment a spark appears on the spark plug to the position of the piston at top dead center. The ignition angle is lost due to a poorly tensioned chain or a twisted belt. For good engine operation, it is necessary to set the ignition timing.

It is necessary

Key "36", key "13", screwdriver, spark plug wrench

Instructions

Step 1

First you need to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Then unscrew the spark plug from the first cylinder, having previously removed the high-voltage wire from it.

Step 2

Next, using the "36" key, you must manually rotate the crankshaft pulley until the mark on it coincides with the upper risk on the engine housing (it corresponds to an ignition timing of 0 degrees). The mark on the crankshaft pulley means that the piston of the first cylinder is at top dead center.

Step 3

After aligning the marks, it is necessary to check whether the piston of the first cylinder is at top dead center. This is done with a screwdriver (any long, thin object). The screwdriver must be pushed into the cylinder bore (where the candle is inserted), if at the same time it goes completely shallow, then the piston is at top dead center.

Step 4

After that, it is necessary to remove the cover from the ignition distributor, using a 13 wrench, unscrew the nut that secures the distributor housing. Then pull out the ignition distributor so that the slider can rotate freely. Then you need to direct it to the contact of the first cylinder (look at the cover). After that, insert the distributor into place, close its cover.

Step 5

Next, you need to tighten the spark plug of the first cylinder and fix it to the contact of the high-voltage wire. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. After that, you can safely start the car.
