Today, foreign cars, the fuel level sensor is regulated by a specialist using a computer and special software. Domestic cars and old foreign cars have a simple, adjustable fuel gauge design. Therefore, if the fuel gauge starts to lie, just adjust it.
It is necessary
- - wrenches;
- - screwdrivers;
- - pliers.
Instructions
Step 1
If the car's gas tank is full, drain 10 liters of gasoline from it. Get to the installation socket of the fuel pump on the tank. Depending on the design of the car, to do this, disassemble the interior trim, remove the rear seat, the steel sheet for protecting the gas tank. Disconnect the wiring connector from the pump. Open the cap of the gas tank to relieve internal pressure in it.
Step 2
Use absorbent materials to avoid spilling gasoline on the floor and interior trim, as it could damage the finish. Carefully release the pressure in the fuel lines. To do this, loosen the union with one wrench and hold the nut of the high pressure hose against movement with the other. Do not mix it up, otherwise a gasoline spill cannot be avoided.
Step 3
Unscrew the fuel pump fasteners and remove it from the installation slot. Depending on the type of attachment, turn the pump and / or pull it upwards. Wait until residual gasoline is drained from the strainer. Then connect the wiring connector to the pump and turn on the car ignition.
Step 4
Observing the readings of the fuel level indicator, move the float spoke to the extreme positions until it stops. The pointer arrow should also change from “0” (empty tank) to “1” (full tank). If in one of the extreme positions of the spoke the pointer arrow shows the wrong amount of fuel, adjust the sensor by bending the left or right adjustment tabs so that the spoke can move to the left or right of its extreme position.
Step 5
After adjusting the fuel gauge, you need to adjust the pointer. To do this, turn off the ignition and disassemble the instrument panel. Disconnecting the necessary wires and the speedometer cable, remove the instrument cluster and disassemble it. After removing the fuel gauge needle from its pin, connect all wires to the instrument cluster without reinstalling it.
Step 6
Turn the ignition back on and wait 5-10 minutes. Then move the sensor spoke to one of the extreme positions corresponding to a full tank. Set the pointer arrow so that it points exactly to the "1" mark and fix it. Install the fuel pump into the seat of the gas tank and secure with fastening nuts. Connect the wire connector and high pressure fuel hoses to it. Tighten the fittings with the required force.
Step 7
Add gasoline to the tank to the full level and mark the position of the pointer arrow. If, after all the adjustment procedures, the arrow still does not show the correct amount of gasoline, remove the fuel pump again and bend the float spoke with two pliers. Hold the needle at the base with some and bend it with the other. Repeat this procedure until the arrow points to the "1" mark. Then turn off the ignition and reassemble all removed and disassembled parts.
