The most common cause of a windshield crack is a hard object trapped in the glass. Any additional shaking of the vehicle caused by moving a pit or curb can cause further development of the defect. The risk is increased by moisture trapped in the crack, a sharp temperature drop. A crack dramatically increases the wear on your windshield wipers.

It is necessary

  • - polymer (resin, optical glue);
  • - bridge and injector;
  • - pump;
  • - micro drill;
  • - ultraviolet lamp;
  • - wipes and liquids for cleaning and removing moisture;
  • - blades for removing excess polymer;
  • - protective equipment (gloves, bedspreads).

Instructions

Step 1

If a crack forms on the windshield until the start of the repair, make every effort to prevent further crack propagation. In the cold season, do not turn on the stove to the maximum and do not direct the stream to the windshield. Warm up the interior gradually, clean off the snow and ice carefully. Cover the defect with tape, placing paper under it so that dirt and moisture do not get into the crack. Do not wash your windshield at a car wash immediately before repairing. The glass should be repaired as soon as possible.

Step 2

Prepare the vehicle for repair: Cover the vehicle with protective covers around the windshield. Take precautions against condensation in the renovation room. Avoid using fan heaters and hair dryers.

Step 3

Use a micro drill to ream the ends of the cracks to prevent them from growing during repairs. To facilitate repairs, the crack itself can be drilled out so that a cavity is convenient for filling. Use a diamond drill or cutter with the drill. Do not use too much speed and effort. Control the drilling depth as precisely as possible.

Step 4

Blow out the crack. Clean it with tissues and cleaning fluids. Dry. If a lot of dirt gets into the crack, flush it. If there is no too much contamination, beware of rinsing.

Step 5

Install a bridge with an injector on the cracked section of the windshield. Start where you originally hit. Secure the bridge with a suction cup. Dilute the polymer if it is two-component. Try to determine as accurately as possible the volume of polymer required so that excess resin does not escape from the cavity when filling the crack. Pressurize the hose to the bridge using a pump.

Step 6

Fill the cavity with polymer. If the cavity is large and not completely filled, move the bridge to another location and perform additional filling of the cavity. When filling is complete, remove the bridge and injector. Rinse and clean it. Until the polymer has completely hardened, use a blade to remove the protruding excess.

Step 7

Dry under the influence of an ultraviolet lamp for 10-20 minutes. In the absence of such a lamp, provide access to sunlight to cure the resin. Increase drying time to 1 hour. After drying, polish the glass.
