Flushing liquids are designed for easy cleaning of car engines from all kinds of deposits. Some car enthusiasts believe that using them will extend the life of the engine. Others believe that timely, appropriate maintenance of a car is already a guarantee that its engine will remain clean. Thus, there is no definite answer to the question of whether it is necessary to flush the engine when changing the oil.
Detergents are used by motorists according to a very simple principle:
- used oil is drained from the engine;
- flushing is poured;
- the engine turns on and idles for about 20 minutes;
- flushing oil is drained;
- a new worker is poured in.
Flushing the engine when changing the oil, first of all, allows you to neutralize the acidic environment in the engine, remove the remainder of the old oil and clean all parts of it. Such special means, of course, are not capable of washing the engine in stubborn sludge.
Should the engine be flushed when changing the oil?
It is believed that if a motorist changes the oil in the engine more often and uses good gasoline, he cannot have any problems with the engine. It is for this reason that in Western countries, car owners almost never use washing oils, considering it a waste of money. Such funds in the USA and Europe are almost never even found on the shelves of car dealerships.
Unfortunately, the situation in Russia is slightly different. Cars are often bought from hands here. And therefore, a car enthusiast can get a vehicle with an already dirty engine. In addition, oils and gasoline in our country often do not shine with a special quality, unfortunately. Therefore, many owners of personal vehicles in Russia still prefer to use flushing oils for cleaning engines from time to time.
In what cases it is necessary to apply
It is believed that flushing the engine when changing the oil is necessary in the following situations:
- when changing the brand of the base oil in order to avoid mixing;
- in the absence of a service book from a car purchased from the hands;
- when changing the type of oil, for example, from synthetics to semi-synthetics due to a change in viscosity;
- after a major overhaul of the motor;
- if you accidentally use very low-quality antifreeze, oil or fuel.
What are the disadvantages of using flushing oil
The majority of Russian car enthusiasts, as well as foreign ones, believe that flushing the engine when changing oil in a car bought at a car dealership and serviced in a timely manner is not necessary. Indeed, in this case, you really have to spend extra money.
In addition, the flushing oils themselves, like ordinary ones, can settle on engine parts. Motorists usually have to look for the highest quality, and therefore expensive, brands of such oils. In any case, although flushing agents are not as aggressive as working oils, after a long time, their negative effect on the car engine, unfortunately, still affects.
