Be sure to flush

Whether or not to flush the car engine before changing the oil is an acute question. He has ardent supporters of both one and the other points of view. How do the adherents of each point of view motivate? During engine operation, engine oil absorbs microscopic sawdust of rubbing parts, resin deposits, carbon deposits, spent additives precipitate. All this deteriorates the original properties of the oil and gradually accumulates at the bottom of the crankcase and in the sinuses. Opponents of the engine flushing operation do not object to this indisputable fact. However, supporters of the first installation insist that if you do not carry out an intermediate filling of special flushing oil and then drain it, all the debris, all slags will remain and quickly contaminate the fresh oil.

Opponents say that modern synthetic oils already contain cleaning additives, and manufacturers invented flushing oils for additional profit.

What to rinse

Cheap grades of mineral oils are used as flushing oils, for example, autol, it has very low lubricating performance. To achieve the desired effect, active alkaline additives are added to it, designed to clean the engine of harmful deposits. The engine should run on this aggressive mixture in a gentle mode for a day or two, after which the oil with an oil filter is changed again.

Taking into account the inconveniences associated with the length of the process, chemists have developed varieties of flushing oil of accelerated action - "fifteen minutes." This lineup is even more aggressive. The engine with such oil should be idle for no more than 15 minutes, after which it is drained and fresh operating oil is refilled.

Alternative: pour 300 ml of concentrated flushing fluid into the used oil and run the engine for 15 minutes. Then drain the old oil and refill with fresh oil, replacing the filter.

Down with flushing

Opponents of flushing with aggressive mixtures believe that they harm engine parts. If the oil is very contaminated, the most acceptable option would be to shorten the mileage interval and replace it earlier than the specified time: after 1-2 thousand km, then after 4-6 thousand again change. It is especially dangerous to flush the engine on a not new car with an unknown history.
