Car repairs can be quite expensive nowadays. Of course, if you have experience and knowledge, and also have the necessary equipment, then you can perform a number of works yourself. In some cases, during repairs, it is necessary to remove individual units from the car, for example, the engine. It is convenient to do this work with a special do-it-yourself lift.

Necessary

  • - steel cables.

Instructions

Step 1

Use a self-braking worm gear for the manufacture of a car lift. Such a device is recommended to be used for the production of one-time work on the dismantling of vehicle units, since during daily work the worm pair gradually loosen up and ceases to reliably hold the load

Step 2

Fit two 80x80x10 mm steel corners into the side walls of your garage. The corners should be located so that the hood of the serviced car is under them.

Step 3

Place a steel plate at least 10 mm thick on the corner shelves. Bolt the worm gear to the plate. For a secure attachment, you need at least eight M8 bolts. In this case, the plate should not be connected to the corners in order to be able to control its position above the car engine.

Step 4

Take the worm gear from a decommissioned metalworking machine. It will be optimal if the gearbox has a gear ratio of 60 and is designed to move a load weighing at least 300 kg.

Step 5

Put an asterisk with a chain on the drive shaft of the gearbox (an asterisk from a "Karpaty" moped will do). Pass the chain through the hole in the plate and connect it into a ring. Make a hole for the chain with a diameter of at least 20 mm.

Step 6

Attach a smaller sprocket to the output (cargo) shaft of the gearbox and loosely throw a chain over it, ending in a hook. Pass this chain through the hole in the plate, making it 25-28 mm in diameter.

Step 7

To use the lift, first disconnect the engine from the vehicle frame. Then put the loops made of steel cable under the unit and put the ends of the loops on the hook.

Step 8

Turning the chain connected by the ring with your hands, rotate the drive shaft of the gearbox. In this case, rotation is transmitted to the load shaft, and the cables are tensioned. Raise the engine until it is outside the engine compartment. The gearbox will securely hold the dismantled unit. It can now be moved to a table or other base to be repaired.
