The Niva car is not an all-terrain vehicle and is much inferior to the UAZ in cross-country ability. To increase cross-country ability, first of all, the installation of large wheels and a suspension lift are required. Please note that on a lifted Niva, the resource of suspension parts, chassis and transmission is noticeably reduced. Therefore, it makes sense to carry out an elevator only with frequent use of the Niva on serious off-road.

It is necessary

Suspension springs (short for the front and long for the rear). A set of open-end and ring wrenches with a set of socket heads. Bulgarian. Vise. Jack. For the rear suspension: VAZ-2104 springs and spacers for rear springs from VAZ-2101-2107, shock absorbers from Gazelle or imported, upper longitudinal jet rods from IZH-2126. For the front suspension: springs from the Chevrolet Niva, shock absorbers from the same car or imported, ball joint boot washers as spacers

Instructions

Step 1

Before starting work, hang the Niva on a lift. If there is no lift, raise with a jack and place on stands under the body. Hanging the vehicle reduces the risk of a fall and speeds up the lifting process.

Step 2

Raise the rear of the vehicle to the maximum height and secure. The fixing of the car must be reliable, because during the work, the machine will swing strongly. Unscrew the braking force limiter rod, the rear brake circuit tee, the lower and upper shock absorber mountings from the rear axle. Remove the tee. Remove the shock absorbers and rear springs. Disconnect the handbrake cable mount if necessary.

Step 3

Install spacers in the upper spring cups, install new springs. Jack up the rear axle to the correct height for installing the shock absorber. After installing the new rubber bands in the shock absorber, put it on. Screw on the top mount first, then the bottom, but do not completely tighten. Pump the shock absorber before installing it, for which squeeze it 6-7 times until it stops. Lower the rear of the vehicle to the ground.

Step 4

Remove both upper reaction rods from the rear axle. Install new tie rods without completely tightening the bolts. Raise the rear axle by the gearbox using a jack. Turning the axle, screw the rods to the body. Do not tighten completely. Lower the rear axle. Jump a little on the rear bumper so that the installed rubber shock absorbers stand freely and turn around.

Step 5

Without lifting the vehicle, completely tighten all loose nuts. Reinstall the brake force limiter rod and adjust it. Extend the T-piece with a suitable hose and refit.

Step 6

Loosen the front wheel nuts. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it securely. Remove the wheels. Clean any dirt from ball joints, levers and shock absorbers. Remove the springs. Remove the shock absorbers by unscrewing the top and bottom mountings. Remove the front stabilizer by disconnecting its attachment to the body and the lower suspension arm. For more flotation, do not put it back on. Remove the bolts securing the upper and lower ball joints. Remove the springs by freeing them from the ties.

Step 7

Install the ties on the new springs and the springs on the vehicle. Use a jack to raise the lower suspension arms to the height required to install the shock absorbers. After installing new rubber bands on the shock absorbers, install the shock absorbers. Cut off 60-70% of its height from the top bumper. Screw the ball joint onto the lower arm. On the upper ball joint, assemble a spacer from 13 pressure plates, welded together. Use the long bolts to screw the upper ball joint to the upper arm. If stability of the Niva is necessary on the asphalt, install the front stabilizer.
