Step 1
Open the driver's door as much as possible. Check the performance of the slide. Over time, they can rust or crack. Each car has its own characteristics when removing the driver's seat. Therefore, read your vehicle's manual. It contains instructions for removing the seat from the sled.
Step 2
Examine the surface of the sled carefully. If there is rust on it, it must be removed. Use sandpaper. Begin sanding the metal with large-gauge sandpaper, gradually changing it to the finest. Skids that are completely unusable must be replaced with new ones. To do this, remove the floor covering. Under it, find the screws holding the base of the slide. Unscrew them carefully. From time to time and corrosion, the screws can stick very tightly to the metal of the body. In this case, the bolts will have to be cut off with a grinder or a hacksaw.
Step 3
Inspect the seat trim. If necessary, replace it with a new one. To do this, carefully open all the seams. Turn the seat upside down. Find the steel rings that hold the material to the base. Open them and remove the upholstery.
Step 4
Check the foam. Over time, it crumples and loses its elasticity. Replace the damaged foam rubber with a new one. Use material that is at least four to five centimeters thick. Cut the foam to the size of the old one. You can make a stock of no more than two centimeters.
Step 5
Adjust the backrest angle adjustment mechanism. If old gears have worn off, replace them with new ones. You also need to check the longitudinal springs. Install new ones in place of the stretched ones.
Step 6
Make a sheathing pattern. Draw a rough sketch with a simple pencil on tracing paper. Then correct it with rulers and templates. For example, you can use the old seat trim.
Step 7
Transfer the pattern to the back of the new fabric. Make sure it is correct. Carefully cut the workpiece exactly along the lines. Try your first fitting by sweeping the fabric with large trial stitches. If there are no distortions and wrinkles, then you can start stitching the material. Then take out the basting.
Step 8
Replace the chair. Check if it works.
