You need to change shock absorbers in pairs and use a special tool for work - keys. Before installation, it is necessary to make a mandatory pumping of the shock absorbers.
Every motorist has to change shock absorbers sooner or later. When this spare part is worn out, vibrations cease to be damped, knocks appear in the suspension and fluid flows. How to change shock absorbers?
Substitution rules
Before you start replacing shock absorbers, you need to know the rules that will help prevent the rapid wear of new shock absorbers and an accident on the road. First, the shock absorbers only change in pairs. If an old worn shock absorber remains on one side of the car, and a new one is on the other, the car will roll, the new strut will take on most of the load and, as a result, will fail very quickly. In addition, such a replacement during sudden braking of the car can lead to unpredictable consequences.
A new shock absorber can fail prematurely due to untimely replacement of boots, support bearings, bumpers and springs, so you need to make sure that all components of the shock absorber are in good condition. A special wrench must be used to replace the shock absorber. Pliers, pneumatic wrenches, vices and gas wrenches are simply unacceptable. And the last thing: the shock absorbers must be properly pumped before installation.
Stages of work
Hold the stem with one wrench and loosen the nut with the other. Remove it together with washers and mounting pad. If a lift is used, the vehicle can be lifted at this stage. Unscrew the nuts securing the lever and remove the shock absorber through the hole made in the lever. Remove the pad from the stem, unscrew the nut securing the assembly to the bracket and remove the spring washer. Now you need to pull out the lower hinge bolt and remove the bracket. Install the new shock absorber together with the hinge. Before installing, pull the stem to the very end, put the cushion washer on it and screw on the nut.
When assembling the mount, the top lift must be lowered. This will load the unit with the weight of the machine. If the rod sticks out of the body at an insufficient distance, it can be pulled out by wielding a wrench and tightening the nut. A splash guard can be used to support the key. If you need to change the stand together with the body, then, wielding devices made of screw ties, you need to compress the spring well, and then remove it. The tie hooks cling to the coils of the spring, and the spring itself is compressed by the turns of the rods. It is possible to eliminate distortions if the rods are twisted evenly. The compressed spring is installed on a new rack, and all steps are repeated in reverse order.
If, disassembling the shock absorber strut, it was found that there is no cartridge inside it, and all shock absorber parts are present in the assembly, you need to carefully drain the oil, install a new cartridge in the strut housing and tighten the nuts. Next, a spring is installed, a support bearing of the rack and a nut is screwed on the rod. That's it, the suspension strut is ready.
