A dent on the body of a car can spoil not only the appearance of the vehicle, but also the mood of its owner. Most often, dents are removed in an auto repair shop. But if the deformation of the body is not very significant, you can try to get rid of it on your own.

Necessary

  • - a hammer;
  • - mallet;
  • - wooden block;
  • - clean rags.

Instructions

Step 1

Inspect the damaged surface of the car body and determine the type of dent. Deformed areas can be divided into two categories. Dents of the first type appear from a weak mechanical impact, for example, from a kick or hand on a car door. It is relatively easy to eliminate them on your own. The second type of damage is when a dent appears from a collision with another vehicle or with a massive object. It is almost impossible to completely correct such a dent yourself.

Step 2

Prepare your work space. Clean the damaged area from dirt. If the dent is located, for example, on a door, lift the glass all the way up, detach the inner lining and remove other structural elements that may interfere with work.

Step 3

Assess the extent of the damage by looking at the inside of the car door. Using a rubber mallet from the inside, apply a few light blows to the deformed area. In some cases, the mallet does not help. Then wrap a wooden block of a suitable size with a clean rag, attach it to the dent and begin to make light tapping with a regular hammer. Gradually, the damaged area will straighten.

Step 4

If the dent appears on the fender of the car, open the luggage compartment and remove the trim. This will provide more space to work with. After inspecting the dent in the fender, follow the same steps as described above for the door. Make sure that the surface on the outside of the body is as level as possible.

Step 5

Having eliminated the defect, polish the outer surface of the body in the damaged area, prime and paint with a paint that matches the color. This will almost completely remove even the smallest traces of damage. But if the dent turned out to be very serious in size, it is quite possible that you will not be able to straighten it completely without a trace. In this case, it is better to go for additional expenses and entrust the processing of the damaged body to professionals.
