Replacement of antifreeze, as a rule, is carried out when the coolant ages. Or it is required after repairs, most often replacing the radiator. The most reliable in this matter will be following the operating instructions for a particular car. But there are requirements for replacing antifreeze, which are the same for all models and brands.

Necessary

  • - antifreeze / TOSOL;
  • - distilled water;
  • - gloves;
  • - filling funnel.

Instructions

Step 1

Select antifreeze or TOSOL in accordance with the specification for fuels, lubricants and fluids for your vehicle's systems. Do not select coolants by color. Previously, antifreezes were really classified by color, now this is nothing more than a marketing ploy by manufacturers.

Step 2

Start and run the engine for 5-10 minutes. Move the interior heater control to the heating position, it must remain in it during the entire coolant replacement procedure.

Step 3

Drain all old coolant from the system. To do this, turn the cap on the expansion tank or radiator to release the pressure. Do not work on a hot engine. the cooling system is in a state of increased pressure and when the valves are opened, hot liquid is inevitable. Then completely unscrew the plug. Open the drain cock at the bottom of the radiator and drain the antifreeze.

Step 4

Fill the system with distilled water or flushing liquid after closing the drain taps. Remember not to put cold water into a hot motor. Tighten the plugs. Run the engine for 5-10 minutes to bleed the cooling system. Repeat the procedure for draining the fluid. The need for re-flushing is determined by the condition of the drained water: it must be clean. You can pre-flush with tap water by inserting a hose into the system inlet and supplying water under pressure. And then finally clean it with distilled water or flushing liquid with the engine running.

Step 5

Pour new antifreeze into the radiator neck and expansion tank. In the case of a non-separable radiator, the liquid is poured only into the tank. Do not confuse an expansion tank with a washer tank! Monitor the fluid level. In the radiator, it should be on the lower cut of the neck, in the tank - between the marks of the minimum and maximum, but during the first refueling it can be filled to the maximum, because the liquid in operation will fill the cavities of the system, the level in the tank will drop.

Step 6

Bleed air through the screw / valve on the engine block until liquid droplets appear. Turn on the tap as far as it will go. Let the engine run again, check the level of antifreeze, top up if necessary.
