The maximum load on the tires of a car, their condition and service life directly depend on the pressure that is maintained in the wheels. The vehicle manufacturer determines the optimum tire pressure.
Necessary
- - car wheels;
- - pressure gauge;
- - special caps;
- - electronic system.
Instructions
Step 1
Check your car's tire pressure twice a month. Also, inflate your tires before every long journey. Be sure to inspect the tires before driving the machine. If the tire visually appears to be flat, measure the pressure in it and, if necessary, inflate.
Step 2
Don't take pressure control lightly. The change in tire pressure by 0.5 kg / cm2 (0.5 bar) is not visually noticeable. In this case, the lower pressure destroys the tire, and the increased pressure increases the load on the suspension. And in fact, and in another case, the vehicle's handling deteriorates and fuel consumption increases.
Step 3
It takes a lot of experience to determine the change in tire pressure from the behavior of the car on the road. Therefore, check the tire pressure with a good quality pressure gauge.
Step 4
Make sure the pressure gauge is working properly and giving correct results. To do this, compare its readings with those obtained by measurements from the specialists of a service station or a tire workshop.
Step 5
Find out the optimal tire pressure for your vehicle. It is written in the car's service book or on an information sticker located on the door pillar on the side of the driver's door, or on the fuel filler flap.
Step 6
Note that this is the recommended cold inflation pressure. Therefore, you need to check it before a long trip (heavy traffic heats up the tires significantly) and not in the sun. A change in ambient temperature by 8 ° C corresponds to a change in tire pressure by about 0.1 kg / cm2. When the temperature rises, the pressure increases, and when the temperature drops, it falls.
Step 7
Measure the tire pressure with a pressure gauge. Position the gauge perpendicular to the plane of the disc. Press its end onto the nipple so that it does not allow air to pass through.
Step 8
Install special caps with color indicators on the tire valves instead of the usual ones. By changing their color, you will know that the pressure has changed. The disadvantage of this method is that the caps only inform about a decrease in pressure by a certain value. So match the cap for your car.
Step 9
Determine a dangerous change in tire pressure using the electronic system, if installed in your car.
