The main problem of the classic Zhiguli models is the ignition setting. Often from an incorrectly set ignition, the car stalls during the trip, the carburetor fires. In a word, this problem cannot be ignored. Therefore, it is necessary to be able to set the ignition on the classics.

- 1) Universal wrench for turning the ratchet;
- 2) Open-end wrench on "13";
- 3) Indicator.
Instructions
Step 1
Unscrew the distributor fastening nut with the key "13". Also remove the distributor cover. Now set the location of the outer contact of the distributor to the first cylinder. Put on the cover and tighten the fastening nut. Remember to fit the "armored wires" on the spark plugs in the correct order. Usually cylinder numbers are indicated on the wires.
Step 2
Remember the designations of the marks on the front cover of the cylinder block. The first mark means the ignition advance angle by 10 degrees, the second mark by 5 degrees, the third by zero degrees.
Step 3
Place a mark on the alternator pulley. To do this, use a multi-purpose wrench to turn the ratchet nut. If the pulley mark is very far away, you can move it to the closest possible distance by scrolling the starter with a key. The very mark located on the pulley can be marked with chalk for better visibility. Use the indicator screwdriver to determine the ignition timing. To do this, connect one indicator probe to the contact that is responsible for the low voltage of the distributor. Connect the other to ground. Switch on the ignition. Now, using the key, turn the ratchet along the marks until the indicator light comes on.
Step 4
Check for correct ignition timing. Warm up the car engine to operating temperature. Drive your car up to 50 km / h and drive in fourth gear. Then press the accelerator pedal sharply, detonation should occur for 1-3 seconds. In its absence, increase the ignition timing by turning, distribute counterclockwise. With a longer detonation, reduce the advance angle by moving the distributor housing clockwise. If the carburetor or exhaust pipe “shoots” during engine start-up, it means that the set ignition is early. If the engine does not start for a long time, then the ignition is later.
