Transmission oil is used to lubricate the transmission. It can be used to lubricate mechanical and automatic transmissions. However, it should be noted that the correct approach to the choice of transmission oil decides a lot in driving.
Instructions
Step 1
When choosing an oil for a gearbox, be guided, first of all, by such criteria as the relative slip speed and specific loads on the vehicle mechanisms. The vehicle manufacturer's manual will serve you well in this case. Unless otherwise specified, you can choose from completely different gear oils.
Step 2
In order to choose the right oil for your gearbox, familiarize yourself with all kinds of oils. Synthetic oils are the most expensive, but also the highest quality. The best option is a semi-synthetic oil, which is not so expensive and contributes to the good performance of the car. Plastic greases are classified according to temperature, water resistance, strength, viscosity, film bearing capacity and some other indicators.
Step 3
When choosing the oil itself, consider the properties that can be recommended for your vehicle. If your car is old enough (1984 and older), fill it with GL-4 oil only. If the car is younger than 1984, then you can use both the GL-4 and GL-5. You should be aware that some car companies specifically place orders for the development of engine and transmission oils suitable for certain models and brands of cars.
Step 4
Also choose plastic lubricants based on the vehicle operating instructions. They can be used without changing until the car has covered 200 thousand kilometers. Use such lubricants not only in the gearbox, but also in the suspensions and steering. When changing greases and oils, remember that some brands and models may not be compatible with each other. Therefore, when buying a car, ask the previous owner what he used.
