The alternator belt in the vehicle must always be in good condition. The correct operation of the engine cooling system and the normal operation of electrical equipment depend on it. It should be periodically inspected and, if necessary, changed in time.
Necessary
- - key 19;
- - spanner key 13;
- - socket wrench 13;
- - socket wrench 17;
- - socket wrench for 8;
- - grease;
- - penetrating lubricant.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the vehicle on the inspection ditch. Lock the wheels. Remove the right engine mudguard element. Visually check the condition of the alternator drive belt. Apply a force of 10 kgf to it exactly in the middle between the engine crankshaft pulley and the generator pulley. If you find cracks, traces of wear and other damage on the belt, then it should be replaced. With the correct tension, it should bend approximately 8 mm. If abnormalities are noticed, adjust the belt. When it is difficult to estimate the force applied by the hand, use a household balance wheel, the graduation of the scale of which should be at least 10 kg. If the adjustment does not bring a positive result, replace the belt.
Step 2
Remove the washer fluid reservoir. Loosen the tension on the alternator drive belt. To do this, take a 19 open-end wrench and unscrew the tensioner locknut. Remove the belt from the alternator and crankshaft pulleys. Check the condition of the tension roller by rotating it. When replacing the alternator drive belt, be sure to check the condition of the tension roller. Its rotation should be light, without noise or jamming. A defective roller should be replaced. This can be done without even removing the tensioner from the engine.
Step 3
Disassemble the tensioning mechanism. To do this, take a 13 spanner wrench and unscrew the 2 bolts securing the adjusting pin. Remove it assembly with threaded tip and top bracket. Take a 13 socket wrench and remove the tensioner lower mounting bolt. Remove it together with the tensioner roller.
Step 4
Remove the protective cover from the roller by prying it off with a screwdriver. Unscrew the roller mounting bolt with a 17 socket wrench. Disassemble the parts of the tensioning mechanism, treat the places that are damaged by corrosion, with a special penetrating lubricant containing a rust converter. Lubricate the adjusting stud threads with grease. Replace defective parts.
Step 5
Install the roller, assemble and put the tensioner in the reverse order. Put the belt on the crankshaft pulley first and then on the alternator pulley. Adjust the belt tension. To do this, turn the adjusting pin with a socket wrench 8. Clockwise the tension increases, counterclockwise it decreases.
