The caliper is one of the main parts of the braking system of a car, therefore your life and health largely depend on its serviceability. To prevent the occurrence of caliper breakdowns, periodically, at least once a month, check the condition of the caliper bushings and the tightness of the connection with the brake hose.

Necessary

  • - assistant;
  • - wheel chocks;
  • - standard wheel key or knob with a head on "17", or a key-cross on "17";
  • - jack;
  • - support posts;
  • - key for "15";
  • - special wrench for "10" for brake pipes;
  • - rubber cap for the brake pipe;
  • - pliers;
  • - spanner key for "13";
  • - key to "17";
  • - head "Torx E-14";
  • - brake fluid;
  • - slotted screwdriver;
  • - spanner or head on "8";
  • - capacity (bottle).

Instructions

Step 1

Engage the car in first gear and lift up the handbrake lever as far as you can. Place wheel chocks under the wheels. Loosen the front wheel bolts using a standard wheel wrench or wrench with a "17" head, or a cross wrench at "17". Jack up the wheel to be removed. Unscrew the wheel bolts completely and remove the wheel. Place the machine on the support stands.

Step 2

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the side where the caliper is removed. Remove the brake hose coupling from the strut holder. Holding the upper end of the hose with a "15" wrench, with a special "10" wrench for brake pipes, unscrew the brake pipe union. Pull the hose end out of the body bracket hole. Place a rubber cap on the brake pipe to prevent brake fluid from leaking. Using a key on "15", unscrew the lower tip of the brake hose from the cylinder and remove the hose.

Step 3

Using pliers, bend the edges of the locking plate of the cylinder mounting bolt to the lower guide pin of the caliper. Using a spanner wrench "13" unscrew the bolt while holding the guide pin with a wrench "17". Pull out the bolt with the lock plate.

Step 4

Now, using a "13" spanner wrench, unscrew the bolt securing the cylinder to the upper guide pin, keeping the pin from turning behind the hexagon with a "17" wrench, and remove the caliper assembly with the cylinder. Using the "Torx E-14" head, unscrew the two screws securing the cylinder to the caliper and remove the cylinder from the caliper. Install the new caliper in reverse order.

Step 5

Since the tightness of the brake system was broken during the replacement of the caliper, it is necessary to bleed the brakes. The VAZ-2112 brake system is made in the form of two circuits. The first circuit includes the brakes for the left front and right rear wheels. The second circuit is the brakes of the right front and left rear wheels. If you have changed the calipers on both front wheels, then bleed the entire brake system. Keep in mind that you can only perform this operation with an assistant.

Step 6

You will familiarize yourself with bleeding the brake system using the example of the first circuit (left front and right rear wheels). Check the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir of the hydraulic brake system and top up if necessary. Raise the rear of the machine with jacks or use a lift.

Step 7

Insert a slotted screwdriver between the lever and the leaf spring of the rear brake pressure regulator, locking the regulator piston in the recessed position. Clean the right rear wheel brake bleeder from dirt and remove the protective cap from it.

Step 8

Use a spanner wrench or a "8" head to loosen the bleed union. Put a hose on the fitting, and lower the free end of the hose into a container (for example, a bottle) partially filled with brake fluid. Ask the assistant to press the brake pedal 4-5 times as far as it will go and keep it pressed.

Step 9

Using the "8" wrench, unscrew the bleed nipple by another 1/2 - 3/4 turn. In this case, liquid with air bubbles will flow out of the hose. As soon as the brake fluid stops flowing out of the hose, screw on the bleed union and tell the assistant to release the brake pedal. Repeat steps 8-9 until no more air bubbles appear in the fluid exiting the hose. After that, remove the hose, wipe dry the bleed nipple and put a protective cap on it.

Step 10

Pump the left front wheel in the same way.
