Failure of the speed sensor causes the speedometer to stop showing the speed at which your car is moving. In principle, with an inoperative speed sensor, you can drive a car, the law does not prohibit this, however, take into account the fact that in many Russian cities the traffic police are now installing photo and video cameras. Therefore, an inoperative speedometer and the resulting ignorance of the speed at which you are driving can lead to large fines.
Necessary
- - new speed sensor;
- - slotted screwdriver;
- - Phillips screwdriver;
- - scissors;
- - knife;
- - plug;
- - spanner wrench or head on "10".
Instructions
Step 1
The speed sensor in VAZ cars is installed, as a rule, on the upper side of the gearbox. In front-wheel drive VAZ cars, the speed sensor master disk is installed on the differential box and rotates at the speed of the front wheels. The sensor sends electrical impulses to the engine management system controller with a frequency proportional to the speed of rotation of the driving wheels. Based on these pulses, the controller calculates the distance traveled by the car and, accordingly, its speed. The controller then transmits this information to the speedometer. Therefore, if the speed sensor fails, the speedometer stops working.
Step 2
You will see the removal and installation of the speed sensor using the example of a VAZ-2170 (Priora) car. For the convenience of performing the work, it is necessary to remove the air supply hose to the throttle assembly branch pipe.
Step 3
First remove the plastic engine cover. Disconnect the terminal from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the ECM wires from the IAC and TP sensor.
Step 4
It is now necessary to disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle assembly. Take a slotted screwdriver, pry out the cable spring retainer with it and remove it from the throttle actuator sector. Then remove the cable from the bracket on the intake manifold. Overcoming the resistance of the spring, turn the throttle actuator sector and remove the cable tip from the hole in the actuator sector. Disconnect the cable from the clips on the intake manifold. Unbutton or cut with scissors or a knife the plastic clamp securing the cable to the crankcase ventilation hose.
Step 5
Loosen the crankcase breather hose clamp using a Phillips screwdriver and remove the hose from the throttle body fitting. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the clamp of the coolant outlet hose from the throttle assembly and remove it from the assembly fitting. Insert a plug into the hole in the hose to prevent coolant leakage. Do the same with the coolant supply hose to the throttle assembly.
Step 6
Now, using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the clamp tightening the air supply hose to the throttle assembly nozzle and remove the hose from the nozzle.
Step 7
Check if the ignition is off in your car. Look at the transmission from the right-hand drive side. The speed sensor is located above the housing of the inner CV joint of the drive of the right front wheel. When you find the sensor, release the wire retainer of the engine management system and disconnect the wires from the speed sensor.
Step 8
Take a "10" box wrench or a "10" head and unscrew the speed sensor mounting nut. Pull the sensor out of the hole in the transmission clutch housing. Remove the o-ring rubber that is located in the groove in the sensor stem. If the O-ring is intact, install it on the new speed sensor. Carry out the installation of a new speed sensor in the reverse order.
