Basically, cars are equipped with two steering column switches: for switching the low / high beam and for turning on the wipers. In the event of a malfunction, it is necessary to remove and disassemble the switches.
Necessary
wrench, marker
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, disconnect the wire from the negative connector on the battery, because the procedures carried out are associated with the risk of getting energized. Then decide how to remove the steering wheel. For most cars, this requires you to disconnect the decorative trim, then the plate, which is responsible for the sound signal. Then, using a wrench, unscrew the nut that secures the steering wheel.
Step 2
After that, disconnect the electrical connector from the signal and make notes on the steering shaft and steering wheel to help you with the subsequent installation. Make these gaps with a marker or sharp object. Then, remove the screws that are located at the bottom of the switch cover.
Step 3
Loosen the screw that holds the steering column switch to the steering shaft. Be careful not to unscrew it completely, otherwise you will have to work very hard to reinstall it. Remove the steering wheel and detach the upper cowl.
Step 4
Disconnect the electrical connectors that fit the switch and disconnect it from the casing. If necessary, disassemble the removed device. Drill out the rivets that connect the body parts. Then carefully remove the top cover. Be extremely careful when performing this procedure because there is a high risk of small parts and springs flying in different directions. It is better if you put the device in a bag and remove the lid there.
Step 5
Clean the contacts and, if necessary, replace them. Lubricate moving parts with a special product such as petroleum jelly. Then carry out the installation in the reverse order, do not forget to adjust the position of the switch on the shaft. Also, be sure to check the functionality of the installed equipment.
