The timing belt is the most important consumable. Failure to replace it in a timely manner can result in a displacement of the valve timing, violation of the ignition moment. And with critical wear, the belt can break, which is why the valves simply bend when colliding with the pistons.
Necessary
- - a set of keys and screwdrivers;
- - jack;
- - wheel chocks;
- - safety support;
- - timing kit.
Instructions
Step 1
Replace the timing belt on the Lacetti once every 60 thousand kilometers. But during this period, it is imperative to inspect it for damage. During operation, the belt may become covered with cracks or cuts. This is fraught with a break, as a result of which the valves will bend, and maybe even a violation of the integrity of the block head. First, you need to put stops under the rear left wheel, and raise the right front part of the car on a jack. Before hanging, you need to slightly loosen the fastening of the wheels to the hub.
Step 2
Place the machine on a special support, because the jack is useful for another purpose. Unscrew all bolts and remove the wheel. Now open the hood and use a 10 key to unscrew the three bolts securing the timing belt guard. Remove it and look at the condition of the belt. To turn the crankshaft, you need to turn on the fourth speed and, after returning the wheel to its place, rotate it. This is the easiest way. But you can't just remove the timing belt. The accessory drive must first be loosened. This is done to remove the alternator belt, power steering and air conditioning.
Step 3
Place a jack under the engine sump before removing the cushion. Without dismantling it, it is impossible to replace the timing belt. Instead of a jack, you can use a crossbar installed between the posts. It is necessary to tie the engine to it with cables so that it does not fall after removing the pillow. When the space for repairs has cleared, you can begin to dismantle the belt. To do this, remove the accessory drive pulley and loosen the idler pulley. By the way, be sure to change it along with the belt.
Step 4
Remove the timing belt. Also dismantle both rollers, because they must be replaced. Now you need to set the camshafts according to the marks. Otherwise, the operation of the cylinders will be incorrect, when trying to start the engine, the valves may meet with the pistons. This will damage the engine components. The crankshaft is also installed using marks on the block and on the pulley.
Step 5
Now install the support and tension rollers, then thread the timing belt. Look carefully for arrows on the front. If they are, then place the belt over them, otherwise it may delaminate. Then tighten with a roller and assemble the entire assembly in strictly reverse order.
