It is recommended to replace the drive oil seals on Japanese cars at the same time as replacing the wheel bearing. New seals are a guarantee of a long service life of the wheel bearing.

Necessary

  • - keys set;
  • - a hammer;
  • - flat screwdriver;
  • - grease for wheel bearings.

Instructions

Step 1

Drive the car into the garage, use a jack to raise the wheel on which the oil seals and bearing will be replaced. Remove the wheel and place it under the engine side member.

Step 2

Insert a heavy-duty flat head screwdriver into the brake disc ventilation window until it rests against the brake caliper and prevents the hub from rotating.

Step 3

Using a heavy-duty socket wrench, loosen the drive nut that is pulling together the wheel bearing races.

Step 4

Disconnect the steering end and ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller for ease of use.

Step 5

Remove the brake caliper and brake caliper. Suspend the caliper by attaching it to the A-pillar spring coil with thick aluminum wire.

Step 6

Using a socket wrench, unscrew the nuts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.

Step 7

Remove the ABS sensor. If it is not humanely removed, it is better to find the electrical connector of this sensor and disconnect it. Remember to free the wire from the body and pillar if necessary.

Step 8

Remove the brake disc from the hub and push the drive shaft inward by hand. If it does not push through, carefully so as not to damage the threads, hit the end of the shaft with a heavy hammer. Make sure it can be pulled out of the spline on the hub.

Step 9

Remove the knuckle assembly. When doing this, be careful not to damage the ABS sensor wire.

Step 10

Use a small sledgehammer to knock the hub out of the bearing race, then use a heavy-duty flathead screwdriver and hammer to remove the drive oil seal. The hub seal will come out with the hub. Using a grinder, cut off the remainder of the inner bearing race.

Step 11

Replace the wheel bearing and pack with grease.

Step 12

Install the drive and wheel seal. Be sure to lubricate them with the same grease as the wheel bearing.

Step 13

Clean the seals on the hub and on the drive from the stuck-on dirt. This is best done with a wire brush. After cleaning the work surface, sand it with fine sandpaper and rinse with solvent. Immediately before installing the hub, lubricate its working surfaces and drive with the same grease that you stuffed into the wheel bearing. Apply the same grease to the spline of the actuator to seal the connection so that no water can seep through in the future.

Step 14

Install the previously prepared steering knuckle, tighten the drive nut and try to rotate the hub by hand. If the rotation is smooth, without jamming, reassemble this assembly completely and install the wheel. Try for backlash. If it is not there, then everything is assembled correctly.
