Starting the car the first time after a night of inactivity on the street in severe frost is a real success for many motorists. Often it is not so easy to do this, and in this case you have to be patient and start trying to reanimate the frozen car.
Instructions
Step 1
Help the battery warm up. To do this, it is enough to turn on the headlights for a short time - twenty seconds may be enough, or it may take a couple of minutes. During this time, the battery will receive enough heat so that the electrochemical processes occurring in it accelerate, and it becomes possible to start the starter.
Step 2
Extinguish the headlights that have completed their task. Also, unplug all electrical appliances that are powered by the battery. So he will be able to focus all efforts directly on starting the engine, instead of lighting and heating a stationary car that has become temporarily useless.
Step 3
Turn the ignition key and wait a little for enough fuel to enter the system. Then shift into neutral and fully depress the clutch pedal. This will make it easier for the starter, since a fully depressed clutch frees the starter from the need to perform additional work - not only crank the engine itself, but also overcome the resistance of the gearbox. The gas pedal, on the other hand, should not be touched yet - this can only serve as an additional hindrance to starting the engine.
Step 4
Start starting the car. It is important to do this intermittently, giving the motor a break between unsuccessful attempts, rather than cranking the starter without stopping until the engine starts to run. The optimal duration for each such attempt to start the engine is 10 to 30 seconds. If you do not pause in time, the starter or battery may suffer, or even the wiring will begin to melt. It is not necessary to pause to start a diesel car.
Step 5
After a successful engine start, do not rush to immediately release the clutch, it is better to hold it for about a minute at the same level. Otherwise, the machine can easily stall. The clutch pedal can then be gradually returned to its original position. Now all that remains is to wait a few minutes for the engine to warm up properly and the car is finally ready to drive.
