The exhaust system of a car has a complex design. Its main purpose is to remove exhaust gases from the engine. The outflow must be adjusted so that the motor works most efficiently, with maximum power.

Step 1
Standard designs of exhaust pipes and mufflers work quite harmoniously with the engine for which they are designed. They do not need special configuration. Exhaust gases are discharged through them almost unhindered, the pressure in the combustion chamber decreases quite quickly, the cylinders are effectively filled with a fresh fuel-air mixture.
Step 2
If you have altered the engine to increase its power, carry out special calculations and make changes to the serial exhaust system. In addition to efficient outflow of exhaust gases when converting, be sure to take into account the noise level that occurs when the exhaust gases are discharged. It is extinguished with the help of reflectors, absorbers. These devices, in turn, should not reduce engine power.
Step 3
If you intend to completely change the exhaust system, first select the material. There may be several options: blued steel, nickel-plated or ordinary metal, titanium or stainless steel.
Step 4
Compare the different designs with each other for their compatibility with the capabilities of your vehicle's engine. Do not rely on your own ideas and arm yourself with measuring devices. For example, use a dynamometer. However, it is impossible to do this at home, as well as to work out an experimental exhaust system.
Step 5
If you yourself cannot assess the advantages and disadvantages of certain parts used, seek the advice of a specialist.
Step 6
Perform final tuning of the exhaust system. For better filling of the combustion chamber, adjust the exhaust valve so that it closes when the pressure in the cylinder is minimal, and the intake valve should already be open by this time.
Step 7
Adjust the amount of injected fuel, ignition timing and valve control at the entrance to the exhaust manifold. This will help reduce the negative impact of the exhaust backwash.
