When driving a car, you can get into a situation where the alternator belt fails. The main sign of a bad belt is a whistle when the engine is running. You can drive to the service or buy a belt yourself and replace it.
Necessary
- - keys 17 and 19
- - mounting paddle or pry bar
- - new belt
Instructions
Step 1
Stop the engine. Open the hood and remove the battery.
Step 2
Tear off and slightly unscrew the nut on 17, located on the semicircular rail. Using a 19 key, loosen the nut of the lower mounting bolt of the generator. Loosen the belt tension using a spudger or pry bar (move the alternator closer to the cylinder block).
Step 3
Remove the old and worn alternator belt from the pulleys.
Step 4
Slip the new belt over the pulleys. Press the alternator blade away from the engine block, tensioning the belt. In this position, tighten the nut to 17, on a semicircular rail.
Step 5
Set the required belt tension according to the amount of deflection in the area between the pulleys. The deflection should be 11-16 mm.
Step 6
Tighten the lower alternator mounting nut and install the engine splash shield.
