There are several reasons for replacing the timing belt (gas distribution mechanism) on a Hyundai car: cracks, tears or other damage even after the vehicle has traveled 60 thousand km. In any case, the removal and replacement of the timing belt must be preceded by a thorough inspection.
Necessary
- - spanners;
- - screwdriver;
- - carpenter's knife.
Instructions
Step 1
To replace the belt, park the car on an inspection pit or overpass. Using a 10 wrench, loosen the four bolts on the coolant pump pulley. After that, you can remove the belt itself and auxiliary parts - the drives of the generator, the air conditioning compressor and the power steering pump.
Step 2
Next, completely unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the top cover. Using a 22 wrench, loosen the bolt that secures the crankshaft pulley. If you have a car with a manual transmission, have someone hold the brake pedal in gear to prevent crankshaft.
Step 3
Position the piston at top dead center by rotating the crankshaft until it is aligned with the “T” mark. When the mark on the camshaft bearing aligns with the hole in the camshaft toothed pulley, loosen the mounting bolt, remove the crankshaft pulley, shield washer and cover.
Step 4
With a 10 key, loosen the bottom cover mounting bolts, and with a 12 key, loosen the adjusting bolt and the fastening bolt. Then, pushing a screwdriver between the roller and the bushing, turn the tension roller bracket fully counterclockwise and loosen the belt tension and immediately tighten the adjusting bolt.
Step 5
Then, using a screwdriver, remove the end of the spring from behind the oil pump housing, loosen the mounting bolt of the bracket and carefully remove the tension roller. When replacing the support roller, you will also need a 12 key. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the roller.
Step 6
Install in the reverse order. Before installing the belt, be sure to check that the timing marks of the camshaft and crankshaft match with each other. Now install the belt on the crankshaft pulley and on the camshaft so that the belt branch is taut on the side of the support roller.
Step 7
Then loosen the idler roller bracket mounting bolt and adjusting bolt. During this operation, the roller will lock in the working position and the belt will take on tension. Crank the crankshaft two times clockwise using the pulley fixing bolt.
