A weakened alternator drive belt begins to slip on the pulleys, emitting a whistling sound when the load in the vehicle's electrical network increases. In addition, the efficiency of the generator decreases, which is no longer able to generate a charging current of sufficient strength to fully recharge the battery.
Necessary
- - 13 mm spanner,
- - a 10 mm spanner.
Instructions
Step 1
If these signs appear in the car, then this means that it is time to check the tension of the alternator belt, and most likely to tighten it.
Step 2
According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the alternator drive belt should not bend by more than 10 mm when pressed from above with a force equal to 10 kgf.
Step 3
In the event that it becomes necessary to tighten the specified belt, then using a 13 mm wrench, the tightening of the nut securing the generator to the tension metal bar is loosened.
Step 4
Then the nut that secures the generator to the engine bracket is slightly loosened.
Step 5
Now we proceed directly to the tension of the belt itself.
Step 6
Using a 10 mm wrench, turn the belt tension adjustment screw by right rotation, while controlling the belt deflection by pressing on it with your thumb.
Step 7
Having achieved the standard, the bolts of fastening the generator to the tension bar and to the engine bracket are tightened.
