The bumper of any car is the first line of defense that protects the car from possible damage. It is not surprising that it is this detail that suffers more than others in an accident. In order to repair the rear bumper, it must be removed from the car.
Necessary
- - car jack;
- - wrench;
- - screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a place to repair. Find a place that is level enough so that the machine can be easily jacked up. Please note that the handbrake must be in working order. You will need it to secure the vehicle.
Step 2
Take a screwdriver. Pry up and remove the decorative caps. Take a wrench, unscrew the upper rear bumper mounting nuts. Then remove the washers from the mountings.
Step 3
Put the car on the parking brake, pull the handle up until it clicks. Take stoppers and reinforce the front wheels to make sure the vehicle is stationary. Instead of stoppers, it is permissible to use bricks or wooden wedges.
Step 4
Now take a jack and place it under the car in such a way as to raise the rear of the car. This is to provide better access to the bumper mounts from the wheel arch side. It is possible to use two jacks at once to speed up the dismantling process, if there is an assistant. When working alone, use one jack. Too much haste can lead to tragedy.
Step 5
Find and remove the side mounting nuts under the vehicle. Then also unscrew the nuts securing the bumper base to the car body.
Step 6
Release the bumper end mounts from the side supports. Carefully remove the rear bumper from the car. Prepare for passive structural resistance, especially if the rear bumper has not been removed since factory assembly.
