Often, car owners are faced with such a problem as fluid leakage from the cooling system. One of the reasons may be corroded plugs in the engine block of the car. To fix the problem, it is enough to pull them out and install new ones.
It is necessary
- - chisel or barb;
- - a hammer;
- - pliers;
- - screwdriver;
- - pointer with a magnet;
- - new plug;
- - skin;
- - sealant.
Instructions
Step 1
Unscrew the negative terminal and remove it from the battery. Drain the coolant from the radiator and cylinder block. Evaluate the ability to access the cylinder block plugs. Remove the block head if necessary. To do this, disconnect the muffler pipe from the exhaust manifold. Remove the coolant pump inlet pipe bracket.
Step 2
Remove the air filter by first disconnecting the ventilation hoses from the cylinder head cover and from the carburetor. Close the carburetor with a special lid.
Step 3
Disconnect the wires from the spark plugs and the ignition distributor sensor, from other sensors and the carburetor. Remove the ignition distributor, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump, from the carburetor - the fuel drain hose, disconnect the brake booster hose and hoses from the outlet pipe of the engine cooling jacket.
Step 4
Disconnect the carburetor throttle and choke valve cables from the engine, remove the toothed belt guard and the cylinder head cover. Unscrew the tension roller nut and remove the roller with the axle and the spacer ring, and then the belt from the camshaft pulley.
Step 5
Unscrew the fastening bolt and remove the pulley with a key, unscrew the nut that secures the timing belt to the cylinder head. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the cylinder head.
Step 6
Take a chisel or barb in one hand and a hammer in the other. Place the chisel on the edge of the plug. Tap the chisel gently with a hammer. The plug should turn. Pry it up and pull it out with pliers. If the plug is corroded enough to not turn, drill a hole in it, screw the knob into it and remove it.
Step 7
Use a pointer with a magnet if you need to remove a plug that has fallen in. Such a pointer should be in a set of tools, if necessary, it can always be purchased at any car dealership. Pull the dropped plug to the hole and pull it out with pliers.
Step 8
Use a sandpaper to remove any rust from the edges of the hole. To improve the tightness, you can apply sealant to the edges of the new plug before installation. Place the plug in the hole. Press it in using a suitable mandrel and hammer
Step 9
Reinstall the cylinder head. Fill the cooling system with antifreeze or water. Connect the negative wire to the battery. Check the operation of the car engine.
