Removal and replacement of spark plugs is carried out during routine maintenance of the car, according to the service book. On average, plugs are removed and replaced after 30,000 kilometers. On foreign cars, candles can last 60,000 kilometers. If the warranty period for the car has expired or you just need to remove the candles yourself, then this quite simple operation can be performed even by an unprepared person.
Necessary
gloves, candle wrench
Instructions
Step 1
Warm up the car engine by making a short trip on it for ten to fifteen minutes. Park the machine on a level surface, open the hood, put on gloves. Spark plugs and high-voltage wires from spark plugs can become very hot and burns without gloves.
Step 2
Examine the engine. On some engines, the spark plugs may be under a protective cover. If the engine is covered with a protective cover, remove it. High-voltage wires go to the spark plugs and the candles themselves, because of the high-voltage wire caps fitted on them, are not visible. The plugs are located either on one side of the engine, sideways in a row, or on both sides of the engine and also in a row.
Step 3
After the location of the candles has been determined, remove the high-voltage wire from one of the candles. Do not pull on the wire, as the conductor can be cut off. Grasp the wire cap and swing it left and right, firmly but gently pull away from the candle. Put the removed wire in front of the candle from which it was removed. If this is not done right away, the wires may get confused and then you will have to restore the order of connecting the wires to the candles according to the manual for your car.
Step 4
Take the candle wrench and gently pushing on the knob, turn the candle counterclockwise. After unscrewing the spark plug, remove it from the block head. The spark plug wrench must be supplied with the vehicle. If the kit does not include a spark plug wrench, then you can use a pipe spanner of the required dimension.
Step 5
Examine the candle. If the candle has worked under normal conditions, its working part should be light brown in color. There should be no traces of oil on the threaded part of the candle, it should not be smoked, the electrodes of the candle should not be burnt.
Step 6
If replacement is required, purchase new spark plugs of the type specified in your vehicle's instruction manual. The installation of the candles is carried out in the reverse order. The candles are inserted into the candle wells and tightened all the way. There is no need to drag at the end of the twisting of the candles. It is enough to tighten until the candle stops spinning under a slight pressure.
