A correctly adjusted parking brake (handbrake), when tightened by 4-6 clicks, should ensure reliable holding of the car on a surface with a slope of 25 percent. If the car is locked by tightening the lever more than six clicks, then the parking brake cable must be tightened.

It is necessary

  • - 13 mm spanner,
  • - clamp or pliers,
  • - jack.

Instructions

Step 1

It is more convenient to adjust the travel of the parking brake lever on the lift - this saves a lot of time.

Step 2

In cases where a visit to a car service station is impossible, for one reason or another, you can pull up the handbrake drive cable yourself on the inspection pit.

Step 3

To do this, the car is placed on an inspection pit in the garage, and the handbrake lever is released all the way down, and wheel chocks are installed under the front wheels on both sides.

Step 4

Then, using a jack, the rear axle is hung out. Below, under the bottom of the car body, on the parking brake cable, the lock nut is loosened.

Step 5

Having fixed the end of the parking brake cable with a clamp or pliers, the adjusting nut is turned by right rotation using a 13 mm wrench, which leads to tension in the cable. A similar action is carried out until the wheel, whose pads are currently being adjusted, begins to spin with deceleration.

Step 6

After that, the parking brake cable is released until the wheel begins to rotate freely on the hub. Upon reaching the set task - the adjusting nut is fixed in the reached position with a lock nut.
