Step 1
Handbrake adjustment on Toyota is most often required after the brake pads, drums, cables or handbrake levers have been removed for repair. In addition, it allows you to compensate for cable strain. Before you start adjusting the handbrake, remove both rear brake drums. This will allow you to make sure that the adjuster wheels of the expander bars on the left and right brake assemblies are free to rotate. Turn each wheel back five teeth.
Step 2
The limiters, which are located on the working levers, must abut against the edges of the shoes. To check this, ask the assistant to move the parking brake handle. Step 3
Raise the handbrake lever one or three clicks, then loosen the equalizer locknut and tighten the adjusting nut. After that, the handbrake cable should be slightly pulled. If there is no tension, you will have to completely replace the parking brake cable.

At the end of the adjustment, release the rear of the car to the ground and check the effectiveness of the handbrake in first gear.
