In severe frosts, it is recommended to use the car as little as possible, since its wear increases several times. But if you still decide to get behind the wheel, various troubles may await you. Frozen doors and a lock are just a few of them. To open a car door in winter, you need to use a defrosting liquid or any available heat source.
It is necessary
- - a lighter or any other heat source (plastic bottle with warm water, heating pad);
- - syringe and defrosting liquid;
- - electric hair dryer.
Instructions
Step 1
Inject defrosting liquid into the car lock. This can only be done with a pre-prepared syringe, alcohol or WD-40. So keep it all ready in winter. After a few minutes, try developing a lock with a key.
Step 2
If you do not have a defrosting liquid, and the key can be partially inserted into the keyhole, try to warm up the key with a lighter. With slight smooth jerks, turn the key in different directions until the lock opens. Do not make too much effort, otherwise you will break the key.
In addition, special key chains are now on sale, including a retractable defroster for locks and a small flashlight. The device is powered by two AAA batteries.
Step 3
If you did not manage to open the door with the help of the preheated key, and you don’t have a miracle keychain, warm up the lock using any heat source that is “at hand”: a plastic bottle with warm water, a heating pad, etc. If you don't find anything suitable, try heating the lock with your breath, using your hands as a horn. If you have access to an electrical network, plug in an electric hair dryer and warm up frozen places with it.
Step 4
After you have dealt with the lock, open the door. To do this, apply a defrosting liquid to the places where the door freezes to the car body. Wait a couple of minutes and open the door.
