The correct operation of the car engine depends on the correct set moment of the ignition timing. Otherwise, fuel consumption increases, machine traction decreases, pistons, connecting rods and piston pins are destroyed. You should periodically check its installation to always be confident in the car.

How to set the ignition on the Niva

It is necessary

  • - stroboscope;
  • - key for 13.

Instructions

Step 1

Set the first cylinder of the VAZ 2121 "Niva" engine to top dead center. In this case, the mark on the crankshaft pulley must be in front of the third mark (0 degrees). Remove the cover from the distributor sensor and check the position of the slider, it should be directed to the pin of the first cylinder.

Step 2

Take a stroboscope to check and set the ignition timing. Connect its clamp "mass" with the "minus" of the battery, the clamp "plus" with the "plus" of the battery, connect the sensor clamp to the high voltage wire of the first cylinder. Take chalk and mark it on the crankshaft pulley for better visibility.

Step 3

Start the engine. Set idle speed - 750-800 rpm. Direct the flashing stream of strobe light to the mark on the crankshaft pulley. The ignition timing will be set correctly if it is aligned with the center mark on the front engine cover. If not, adjust the ignition timing. To do this, switch off the engine. Take the key 13 and loosen the ignition distributor sensor. For convenient regulation of the ignition timing, the signs "+" and "-" and divisions are provided on the flange of the ignition distributor. Then turn it to the required angle: counterclockwise to increase the ignition timing, clockwise to decrease. Fix it and check the installation with a stroboscope.

Step 4

Open the distributor sensor cover. Then, holding it so that there are no gaps, align the rotor mark and stator petals in one line. Fix the ignition distributor sensor. Start the engine, warm it up to a temperature of 80 degrees and, moving at a speed of 50-60 km / h on a flat section of the track, press the accelerator pedal sharply. If a short-term detonation occurs (1-2 s), then the ignition timing is set correctly. In the event that detonation continues (early ignition), the sensor should be turned counterclockwise, and when it does not occur (late ignition), then clockwise.
