Car priming is undoubtedly a very important process that body repair cannot do without. A primer is applied so that the paints and varnishes better fit on the metal surface. In addition, the soil protects the car well from rust. To make a primer yourself, you need to be patient and have the necessary tools.

It is necessary

  • - spray gun (puller pistol);
  • - sandpaper;
  • - rags;
  • - solvent;
  • - putty;
  • - springy spatulas;
  • - container for soil;
  • - hardener.

Instructions

Step 1

Before starting work, place a rag soaked in solvent (650) on the car body and wait 20 seconds. If there are no wrinkles on the surface, then you can proceed to the primer, but if they are, the car needs to be cleaned of old paint. Remove it with 180 grit paper, and if metal appears, use 240 grit paper.

Step 2

After that, wipe the surface of the body from dust, degrease, where necessary - put putty. Take a springy spatula and apply the putty across the defect, and then level along. Wait for the putty to dry and then sand it with 180 or 240 sandpaper. Recheck the body surface for scratches and irregularities. If there are any, remove them with sandpaper. Now you can go directly to the primer.

Step 3

Pour the soil into the prepared container and mix it with a clean stick. Next, mix it with solvent and hardener, according to the proportions indicated on the package. Mix the resulting mixture, but with another stick.

Step 4

Pour the prepared soil into the spray gun and adjust the torch power. To carry out the priming of the machine, a pressure of 3-4 atmospheres will be enough. Before priming the car, be sure to practice on some surface (wall, plywood). When you see that the soil is laying down in an even layer, you can go to the car.

Step 5

Start at the edge and hold the gun at a 45-60 degree angle to the side where there is no soil. Prime with parallel stripes so that they overlap each other by half. After finishing the primer, wait 15 minutes for it to dry, and if necessary, you can apply a second layer according to the same scheme, which will go perpendicular to the first. The body is now ready for painting.
