Instructions
Step 1
To adjust the ignition timing, use a stroboscope, while the parameters that the motor must correspond to are taken from professional reference books (they contain data for each individual model).
Step 2
If a vacuum regulator was installed on the ignition distributor, check under what conditions the vacuum is applied. There are two known options for the supply of vacuum to the regulator: after lightly pressing the gas pedal and with the engine running.
Step 3
Often, the vacuum comes only after the engine has started. As a rule, this option is represented by a complex structure designed for mechanical ignition control. This design is represented by switches, condensate collectors, thermal switches and delay valves, due to which the vacuum force acts on the regulator, and the force of the effect depends on the engine temperature.
Step 4
Check the serviceability of the vacuum regulator using a special tube, one end of which is put on the regulator. With the engine idling, create a vacuum in the tube, and also increase the engine speed to 100-200 rpm.
Step 5
To adjust the ignition with a stroboscope, there is a graduated scale on the engine. Look for these marks on the crankshaft pulleys (from the front of the engine or in the window above the flywheel). As a rule, these places are covered with a thick layer of dirt or rust, therefore, before measuring the indicators of interest to you, clean the engine well and touch up the marks.
Step 6
Perform the adjustments with the engine warm and idling. Gently turn the ignition distributor at a small angle, while aligning the desired marks when the strobe light is blinking.
