Exhibitions in Geneva annually showcase many new products from the automotive world. Of course, not all cars are destined to go into mass production, but it is here that you can see the most unusual solutions and projects in the automotive industry. Most recently, the French manufacturer Renault shared its plans for the upcoming 2014 exhibition. The company decided to set a real record and surpass all available indicators in the field of economy.
In the Renault family, there are already representatives of the economy class of cars - this is the Zoe model range. However, the world record holder in fuel economy is still the Volkswagen XL1. The most pleasant news for motorists is the cost of a new car, the price of which, in comparison with its main competitor, will allow it to be launched into mass production and become available to a wide range of buyers.
Remy Bastien, who holds the post of head of the research center of the concern, provided the press with some information about the new product, thanks to which it is possible to draw certain conclusions about the characteristics and appearance of the super-economical hybrid. It is known, for example, that the size and configuration of the car will resemble Renault Clio, and the company's management is placing particular emphasis on some innovations. According to Renault experts, it is not the size of the car that affects the fuel economy so much as the aerodynamics. This fact has become key in the development of a hybrid.
It is worth noting that in some sense this opinion can be considered an innovation in the field of automotive industry, because usually (for example, the well-known company BMW), manufacturers pay special attention to the use of ultra-light, but at the same time very expensive components for economical cars. French engineers decided to completely abandon carbon fiber, due to which the cost of the car decreased. At the moment, these data are not yet the limit, researchers continue to explore possible ways to save even more. It is also known that the new model will be included in the B-segment in terms of comfort and interior space.
The main secret was the question of the proposed transmission for the hybrid car. The secret about which model from the existing Renault lineup has become the so-called basis for creating a super-economical car has not yet been revealed.
The new concept car will consume only 2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. What indicators will lead to further research and development is not yet known. However, it will be possible to see the result already next year. At the moment, the modern auto industry has mastered the technologies of efficiency by only 50%, and the Renault management plans not only not to stop at creating a super-efficient hybrid, but also to continue working in this direction. The main challenge for the coming years will be the development of a whole range of zero-emission vehicles.
