A faulty ignition module can fail at the most inopportune moment. Diagnostics and troubleshooting will take about an hour, but this will allow you to quickly respond to the development of the problem.

The main symptom of a malfunction of the ignition module on the VAZ 2110 is the absence of a spark in one or more cylinders. Because of this, the engine troit, or does not start at all. Another common phenomenon is an ignition cycle knocked down in time, in which coordinated operation of the gas distribution and piston systems with the ignition unit is impossible. There are several methods for determining the malfunctions of the ignition module.

Spark test

This method is most suitable for checking the VAZ 2110 ignition module in the field. Always have a kit or at least one new spark plug in your vehicle repair kit. The spark plug caps are alternately removed from the cylinder head cover, new candles are inserted into them, which are grounded to the body or ground. If there is no spark when the starter rotates, then the problem is not in the spark plugs and the ignition system should be investigated in more detail.

To do this, you can try to replace the high-voltage wire of the cap that did not have a spark when the engine was started. Remove the protective cover from the distributor or module and number the contacts according to the numbers of the cylinders to which they are connected. After that, you can remove the wire from a known working contact and put it on a non-working one, thus checking the integrity of the core and the state of the connecting contacts. If a spark appears, then the problem lies in the faulty high voltage wire. In the event that the problem persists, a deep repair or replacement of the ignition module may be required.

General malfunction of the ignition module

If there is no spark on all spark plugs, there is a high likelihood of failure of the breaker or high voltage coil. In vehicles with injection fuel supply, the electronic ignition and fuel supply control system can be knocked down, which has the same symptoms as a breakdown of the distributor in carburetor cars. The latter are distinguished by the ease of repair. It is enough to remove the casing and cover of the distributor body, then check the condition of the contact group: presence of carbon deposits, lack of electrical contact, general condition of the device. Very often the distributor fails due to a faulty capacitor, which is connected in parallel with the power circuit. Its inoperability leads to increased sparking and rapid wear.

Method of replacing the module and high voltage wires

In some cases, it is much faster to replace the ignition module and high-voltage wires with similar parts temporarily removed from a car of the same make. The whole procedure takes up to one hour: the distributor or module is quite easy to dismantle, the main thing is to note the correspondence of the output contacts to the cylinder numbers on the engine. In most cases, such an operation helps to identify a general malfunction of the ignition system without many time-consuming operations.
