What is silent block?
The silent block, or rubber-metal hinge, consists of two metal bushings, the space between which is filled with a special rubber insert. Silent blocks are used to connect suspension parts, as well as in shock absorbers, stabilizers, link mountings, and gearboxes to absorb shock energy while driving.
The rubber-metal hinges are more cushioned as part of the suspension parts. And you can endlessly curse the impeccable road surface in the cities of Russia and on its highways, but the fact remains. It is thanks to the state of the roads in the country that the silent blocks are replaced not every 100,000 km, as prescribed by the standards, but every 50,000.
Why are silent blocks so important?
Most often, the undercarriage of the car undergoes early repair due to high wear due to constant loads. Silent blocks, with the help of a rubber layer between the bushings, soften shocks and loads. If the rubber layer is worn out or cracked, it is better not to pull with the replacement. The first signs that it is high time for the silent blocks to go to the silent block is a deterioration in the car's handling at speed, uneven tire wear. In order not to wait for visible signs, you can just look under the bottom of the car and check the condition of the silent blocks, or contact a car service.
What will happen if the silent block is not replaced in time?
Imagine a person who is forced to move around, perform all actions, but without joints. The friction force will increase, there is no shock absorption, plus the whole bones will quickly become unusable. The same will happen with the car parts if they are deprived of the silent blocks that are so necessary for the correct functioning.
First, the suspension will start to rattle, due to the fact that the frayed rubber inserts no longer take on most of the impacts (rails, pits and holes), the load will fall on the components and suspension parts, loosening them and rendering them unusable. As a result, untimely replacement of rubber-metal hinges can lead to serious breakdowns and rather big investments.
Replacing silent blocks is not difficult if you entrust your iron horse in the hands of professionals. The fact is that in addition to replacing the rubber-metal hinges, you also need to press them correctly. To do this, I use special tools in car repair shops - here every millimeter matters.
