Hydraulic lifters are necessary to eliminate the backlash in the drive. If air, water and other contaminants enter them, the knock of the valves begins when the engine is running. Cleaning is necessary to eliminate an unpleasant defect.

Instructions

Step 1

First, make sure that the interruptions and unpleasant noise are caused by the hydraulic lifters. To do this, start the engine and listen. The noise should appear immediately and increase when the engine speed changes. Remember that in the absence of these signs, the cause of the knock is definitely not in the engine.

Step 2

Open the hood and lock it in position. Disconnect the air filter and then the cylinder block cover. The axles of the rocker arms, on which faulty hydraulic lifters are identified, must also be removed. Remove them carefully from their slots.

Step 3

Prepare three containers of the same size, with an approximate capacity of 5 liters. Make sure that the depth of the tank is sufficient for the full immersion of the hydraulic compensator. Then fill the canisters with diesel fuel and label them. This will allow you not to get confused and use each container for its intended purpose. The first container is required for pre-flushing, the second for the final flush, and the last for refueling.

Step 4

Place the hydraulic lifter in the first container and clean the outside thoroughly. Then submerge it halfway and squeeze the valve ball through the hole in the plug. At the same time, move the plunger until you feel that its stroke has become free.

Step 5

Dip the hydraulic lifter into a second container and repeat the flushing procedure. Then move to the last container and, while holding the valve ball depressed, fill it with diesel fuel. After that, remove the hydraulic compensator out and check the immobility of the plunger.

Step 6

Install hydraulic lifters and all other parts in reverse order. Then start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
