Failure of the timing belt leads to a misalignment of the angles of rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts, which adversely affects the operation of the valves. And this can lead to very expensive car engine repairs. Therefore, it is necessary to check the condition of the belt in a timely manner.
Instructions
Step 1
In what condition the timing belt is located without removing the plastic casing or valve cover, it is impossible to find out. Even so, the outside of the belt will show nothing. To determine what degree of wear it has, inspect its inside by turning it inside out. Pay attention to the rollers when checking the belt. Often they are the reason for breaking even the highest quality belt. If the timing belt is worn, inspect and replace the rollers before replacing it. Before inspecting the roller bearings, it is necessary to remove the belt, since without this it is impossible to determine their condition.
Step 2
After determining the condition of the timing belt and making sure to replace it, buy a valve cover gasket. Give preference only to original parts. When replacing the gasket, never use sealant. Also pay attention to the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals. If they show signs of oil leakage, change them. There is no disaster in the oil flow, but if it gets on the timing belt, its wear will accelerate. Also install oil seals without using sealant and choose only original ones.
Step 3
When replacing the timing belt, pay attention to the pump. Also, carefully inspect it for signs of leakage, and also check the condition of the bearing. Without removing the belt, it is almost impossible to determine the leakage of the pump, since it is screwed to the cylinder block and the leakage of antifreeze evaporates within a short time. If, when the belt is removed, there are traces of antifreeze on the pump near the control hole, replace it, as there is a risk that the leakage of antifreeze will increase. Also, don't forget to check the drive belts. If they have cracks on the inside, replace them as well.
