The brakes on the Chevrolet Lacetti are both front and rear disc, and change in the same way as on other cars

Necessary

  • - screwdriver;
  • - key for 14;
  • - key for 12;
  • - high temperature grease;
  • - brush for metal.

Instructions

Step 1

Check the front brake pads for wear. This should be done every 15,000 km the vehicle has traveled or annually. To do this, place the machine on a lift or inspection pit, in the latter case, fix the rear wheels with stops. Remove the front wheel. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right to check the brake pads on the right, or to the left to check the left. Determine visually through the viewing window in the caliper their thickness. If at least one of them has it less than 7 mm, then replace everything - left and right. Check in the same way and, if necessary, replace the rear brake pads, but they have a permissible thickness of 2 mm.

Step 2

Replace the front pads. To do this, remove the cover of the reservoir of the master brake cylinder, take a rubber bulb and take some of the brake fluid. Using a screwdriver, using it as a lever, sink the piston into the brake cylinder. Take the 14 key and unscrew the lower bolt that secures the caliper to the guide pin, and then lift the caliper.

Step 3

Remove the front brake pads by prying them off with a screwdriver. Remove the top and bottom retaining springs. Take a metal brush and clean the shoe guide, springs and reinstall them. Pull out the lower guide pin and clean it. Lubricate it with LIQUI MOLY Kupfer paste or Wurth CU 800 high temperature grease. Pull out the second guide pin together with the caliper, clean it and apply new grease.

Step 4

Take new front brake pads and apply high temperature grease where they come in contact with the rail. Install in the reverse order. Apply an anaerobic thread lock to the brake caliper mounting bolt. Replace the pads on the other side in the same way. Press the brake pedal several times, this will make it possible to self-align the gaps between the discs and them. Check the fluid level in the reservoir of the master brake cylinder (GTZ), bring it to normal.

Step 5

Replace the rear brake pads. To do this, take a part of the brake fluid from the GTZ reservoir with a rubber bulb. Remove the rear wheel and use a screwdriver to push the piston into the brake cylinder. Unscrew the caliper mounting bolt with a 12 key to the guide pin and lift the caliper up. Use a screwdriver to bend the rear pad retainer and remove it. Also dismantle the second one. Use a screwdriver to pry the lower retainer and remove it. Take a metal brush and clean the retainer and guide from any rust and dirt.

Step 6

Replace the lower retainer. Clean the upper one in the same way. Hold the protective boot and pull out the lower caliper guide pin and clean it of grease. Apply high-temperature grease to it, put some of it in the protective cover. Pull out the second pin in the place with the caliper, also clean and lubricate it. Apply it to the parts of the rear brake pads that come in contact with them. Install them in reverse order. Apply anaerobic thread lock to the guide pin mounting bolt. Also replace the pads on the second wheel. After that, press the brake pedal so that the gaps between them and the discs are self-established. Check and add brake fluid to normal.
