In the winter season, car owners benefit, as they do not have to freeze at stops while waiting for public transport. However, at very low temperatures, the engine takes a long time to warm up and cools down very quickly. Therefore, before the onset of winter cold, the radiator must be insulated.
Necessary
Black felt, scissors, knife, heat-insulating sheet, building hair dryer, special roller
Instructions
Step 1
Glue the inside of the hood with insulating sheets. You can also put a layer of vibration isolation. This will reduce the audibility of the running motor. To do this, remove the hood from the hinges by unscrewing the control nuts on each side. The dismantling procedure is best done together. Place the hood on top on a table.
Step 2
Wash it thoroughly and degrease it. Let dry. Mark the insulation sheets. Cut along the lines. now remove the protective layer from the sheets and glue them to the hood, heating them with a construction hairdryer and evenly rolling them with a special roller. Now the heat radiated by the engine will be retained longer in the engine compartment.
Step 3
Cover the openings in front of the car's radiator with something. Never use cardboard for this purpose! It crumbles and gets soaked over time. If particles of cardboard enter the radiator, it will damage the vehicle. It is best to remove the radiator grill and insulate it from the inside. Use felt for this purpose. It is inexpensive and keeps you warm. Also think about the aesthetics of your vehicle. It is best to buy felt black so that it is not so noticeable from the outside. Reinforce it with thin wire. Reinstall the radiator.
Step 4
Install an additional radiator in front of the regular one. It will additionally heat the air before entering the main radiator. Radiators must be connected in parallel. Also install an additional thermostat in one of the nozzles. It will allow air with a higher temperature to be supplied to the radiator.
Step 5
Get a special anti-freeze for the winter. which retains heat better and longer. There is a misconception that if the radiator is not cleaned, it will keep warm better. This is wrong! If the radiator gets clogged, then the circulation will be disrupted and sooner or later it will stop functioning, and the engine will burn out from excess heat.
