A fan, like any other electrical appliance, may suddenly stop rotating. It is especially offensive if this happens in hot weather. Why did the fan stop?
Instructions
Step 1
Most of the time, the fans stop because the lubricant dries out. A sign of this is the tight rotation of the blades. This can be checked manually only when the fan is disconnected from the mains. To lubricate the fan (also unplugged, of course), remove the rear cowl and impeller. Take an oiler, pour a few drops of engine oil into it, then lubricate both engine bearings. Put on the impeller and start rotating it until you feel that it has stopped seizing. Now put the protective grill back on and let the fan run. Gradually, it will pick up the speed for which it is designed.
Step 2
Another fan malfunction is engine failure. If it has short-circuited loops, it will overheat, and if there are breaks, it will simply not start. It is impossible to buy the motor separately, so remove it from another device of the same design, in which the motor is serviceable, but something else is irreversibly damaged, for example, the case. Reposition with de-energized fans, and connect all wires in the same way as in the original. Secure the new engine well.
Step 3
Also, fans often fail due to burning of the switch contacts. Disconnect such a fan from the mains, carefully disassemble the switch, clean and bend the contacts, then reassemble and check.
Step 4
The fan, which was disconnected from the outlet by pulling not by the plug, but by the cord, may stop working due to the breakage of the conductors inside the plug. Then pull it out of the socket, then replace it with another one that has a collapsible design. Never pull the cord instead of the plug when disconnecting the appliance from the mains.
Step 5
Most residential fans use magnetic shunt motors and do not have any capacitors. But in some models, they may still be present. Having de-energized such a device, first of all, discharge the capacitor at least through a screwdriver, holding it by the well-insulated handle. Only then proceed with the repair.
