Poor quality fuel can lead to fuel system failure, loss of power, poor engine performance, or even complete failure. That is why it is important to determine the quality of fuel before refueling a car with it.

Necessary

  • - transparent bottle;
  • - potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate).

Instructions

Step 1

Pour gasoline into a clear glass or bottle and wait 5-10 minutes. High-quality fuel should be yellowish, without visible precipitation and impurities. Add a few potassium permanganate crystals to the container. If the fuel has acquired a pinkish tint, then water has been added to its composition.

Step 2

Put some gasoline on the back of your hand. If the fuel is good and does not contain various impurities, then it will cause dry skin, and if it is bad, it will leave a greasy mark. You can find out whether gasoline leaves a greasy stain or not with the help of white paper. To do this, just drop one or two drops of fuel on it.

Step 3

Smell the gasoline. If you smell naphthalene or hydrogen sulfide (the smell of rotten eggs), it means that substances have been added to the fuel that make the manufacturing process cheaper. The smell of gas means that the gasoline is made from gas condensate.

Step 4

There are fuel quality indicators that can be purchased from specialized stores. This is a strip of paper, on the edge of which a layer of a special solution is applied, which recognizes the presence of impurities in the fuel. Before refueling the vehicle, place the indicator on the edge of the fuel nozzle (usually there are always a few drops of fuel on the edge) and observe the result. If the indicator changes color, then the quality of gasoline is poor. This method is especially suitable for those who often have to travel to other cities and refuel at unknown gas stations.

Step 5

Not only gasoline can be of poor quality, but also diesel fuel. Its quality can be determined by smell and color. Pour some fuel into a transparent bottle and take a closer look. Good quality fuel has a slightly richer color than vegetable oil and an oily odor. Low-quality fuel has a black oil smell, and is dark in color. Diesel fuel should be oily and greasy to the touch.
