When driving on an icy road, even winter tires do not provide reliable adhesion of the tires to the road surface. To make driving on winter roads more comfortable and safer, most car owners use rubber spikes. Moreover, this can be done not only in a car service, but also independently.

Step 1
Get new winter tires with pre-made stud holes. Select the studs, choosing the height for the tread so that after installation the tip of the stud protrudes from the tread by no more than 1, 3 mm, otherwise it will fly out of the tire very quickly.
Step 2
For a quiet ride, choose a single flange cleat; for an aggressive driving style, it is better to purchase a more expensive double flange cleat. After that, pour the studs into the separator, where they will be distributed for feeding into the air gun, which will be used for studding.
Step 3
Install the tire and moisten it generously with soapy water. This will greatly facilitate the installation of the cleats. After that, orient the gun vertically and, fixing its paws in the hole, pull the trigger. The stem will push the spike into the hole, and the soapy water will help slide it into place. Never tilt the gun.
Step 4
When the first stud is installed, carefully inspect it, make sure it is straight and does not protrude too much from the tire. Then install the rest of the cleats. If there are any that protrude higher than necessary, place an aluminum or brass sheet on them and use a hammer to set them in place. If this fails, remove the spike with pliers (it is easy to do this while the soapy water is dry) and reinstall it.
Step 5
It is better for the tires to lie down for a few days after installation. During this time, the rubber stretched during installation will fall into place and grab the spikes. Therefore, the likelihood of the spike coming out will be much reduced. After installing studded tires, drive the first 300 km without sudden acceleration and braking, preferably at a speed not exceeding 80 km / h. Then the spikes will finally fall into place, and will last as long as the tire works. If the spike still flew out, do not insert it into the hole, it is already deformed and will not hold it.
