Various breakdowns in the ignition lock of Audi cars are eliminated either by repairing it, or by replacing it as an assembly. Both require the dismantling of the castle itself. Crafted people, as a rule, perform this operation on their own.
Necessary
- - a screwdriver with a Phillips blade;
- - spanner wrenches for 15 or socket heads;
- - socket head 24;
- - a set of hex keys;
- - drill
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the steering wheel for ease of further work. To do this, carefully remove the beeper cover. Disconnect the signal connector. Using a 24 head, unscrew the nut on the steering wheel. To avoid confusion during installation, mark the steering wheel and its pulley, then remove the steering wheel from the pulley.
Step 2
Remove the instrument panel. To do this, unscrew the screws securing the steering column trim and remove the trim itself. Disconnect the combined steering column switch harness connectors. Then unscrew the fixing screws of the dashboard and take it out of the passenger compartment along with the shelf. In this case, disconnect the two connectors of the wires going to the panel.
Step 3
If troubleshooting requires only removing the contact block of the lock, look into the dashboard window and find the two small screws that secure it to the lock case. In some cases, they are covered with blue paint. Unscrew these screws with a thin screwdriver and remove the terminal block from the ignition switch housing. Do not remove the lock itself.
Step 4
To completely remove the lock, completely remove the steering column. Using two 15 wrenches, remove the two bolts securing the column to the car body. Disconnect the column from the steering rack in the place of its attachment (in the area of the driver's feet) by unscrewing two nuts. Then the steering column can be freely moved.
Step 5
Remove the ignition switch itself. To do this, use a suitable hexagon to unscrew the fastening bolt of the lock cover. Disconnect the connector from the ignition switch and remove the wires from the steering column. Then remove its body from the steering column.
Step 6
On Audi models of the nineties and younger, the ignition switch is installed in the steering column lock housing. In this case, after unscrewing the fastening bolt of the lock cover and disconnecting the wires (see paragraph 5), unscrew the fastening nuts of the steering column lock, remove the bolts and remove the lock of the steering column from the bracket of its fastening.
Step 7
To remove the ignition lock drum from the steering column lock, drill holes on the sides of the ignition lock cylinder. Free up access to the locking latch. Insert the key into the ignition lock, push the latches and remove the lock drum.
Step 8
Carry out the installation of a new lock in the reverse order of removal. If the instructions for removing the old lock were strictly followed, there should be no difficulties in installing a new one.
