The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is designed to reduce the content of nitrogen oxides in the vehicle's exhaust gases. In case of contamination and failure of the EGR valve, the car can stall at idle, consume more fuel. In order not to waste time and money on repairing this system, you can simply plug the valve.
Necessary
- - screwdriver;
- - means for cleaning engines;
- - a piece of aluminum 1 mm thick or a can of beer;
- - scissors for metal;
- - a sharp knife.
Instructions
Step 1
Unscrew the expansion tank cap and drain plug in the lower right corner of the radiator. Drain antifreeze into a prepared container. A five-liter plastic bottle with a cut-off top can be adapted for this purpose. Disconnect the antifreeze supply hose.
Step 2
Remove the vacuum tube from the EGR valve. Unscrew the bolts securing its body. Remove the valve and gasket. Clean the valve body with an engine cleaner.
Step 3
Cut out the plug from a piece of aluminum approximately 1 mm thick. If you don't have one at hand, you can make a plug from a cut beer can. It is better not to use paronite, as it burns out quickly.
Step 4
Use the factory EGR valve gasket as a template. Place it on a tin and circle it with a sharp knife. After that, the plug can be easily cut with scissors. Punch holes for the bolts in it.
Step 5
Install the plug, put the EGR valve body in place, secure with bolts.
Step 6
Clean and remove the choke from the intake manifold. Clean the manifold and refit the damper, reconnect all hoses. Fill in antifreeze, remembering to measure its level.
Step 7
Alternatively, remove the valve, replace it with a steel plug, cut to fit its hole. After installing the valve plug, an error will pop up on your on-board computer (unless, of course, this unit is flashed with disabling the readings in the USR system). If necessary, contact the specialists for its firmware, or simply disconnect the terminal from the sensor.
