The master brake cylinder is the most important part of the vehicle's braking system; it is he who, at the moment of pressing the brake pedal, distributes and supplies the brake fluid to the circuits.
Necessary
- - new brake cylinder;
- - keys set;
- - pliers;
- - brake fluid;
- - rag.
Instructions
Step 1
In the vast majority of cars, the brake master cylinder is located in the engine compartment on the driver's side and is attached to the vacuum brake booster. Some older models of cars do not have a vacuum brake booster, so the brake master cylinder is attached directly to the body of the car.
The process of replacing a cylinder on different cars does not have any fundamental differences, there are only features of the fastening of certain constituent components.
Step 2
The procedure is most conveniently carried out on a viewing ditch. Drive the car into the hole, set the handbrake and open the hood. The first step is to remove the brake fluid from the barrel. To do this, you can use a rubber bulb. Pour the pumped-out liquid into a prepared container. If the fluid is not contaminated, it can be reused.
Step 3
Unscrew the 3 nuts securing the pipes to the cylinder. Some of the brake fluid may drain from them, let it drain from the pipes and take them to the sides. Depending on the brand of the car, the pipes are mounted on top or on the side of the master brake cylinder, in addition, their number varies.
Step 4
Loosen the hose clamps from the brake fluid barrel. On other cars, hoses may not be available, often the barrel is attached directly to the brake master cylinder. Depending on the device, remove the hoses or disconnect the drums.
Step 5
Remove the 2 nuts securing the brake master cylinder to the brake booster housing. Remove the old brake cylinder.
Step 6
Gently wipe the brake master cylinder installation site with a clean cloth. Install a new brake cylinder. Reassemble the system in the reverse order of removal.
