Unadjusted ignition can cause difficult starting and erratic engine operation, knocking and black exhaust from the pipe. Long-term operation of a car with an incorrectly working ignition system is fraught with the failure of components and assemblies of the crank mechanism, injection systems, and catalyst. Meanwhile, to set the ignition does not require a lot of time or experience in auto repair.
Necessary
- - set of wrenches;
- - stroboscope;
- - white paint or marker
Instructions
Step 1
Before checking and adjusting the ignition system, check its serviceability and the operability of all its components. Check the correctness of the fuel system adjustment, namely the idle speed and the quality of the fuel-air mixture. Turn off the air conditioner. Remove the inspection hole plug on the clutch housing.
Step 2
Turn the crankshaft. This can be done in one of three ways: grasp the belt pulley with your hand and turn the crankshaft clockwise, turn on the 5th gear in the gearbox and move the car, hang the front wheels, engage the gear and rotate one of the wheels.
Step 3
Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks on the flywheel are visible in the inspection hole of the clutch housing. Use white paint or marker to mark the flywheel and V-notch at the bottom of the inspection hole. Start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature and turn it off again. Connect the stroboscope according to the instructions for it.
Step 4
On the PB, PF and 2E engine, disconnect the blue connector and the temperature sensor, set the engine speed around 2000-2500 rpm. On the RP engine, disconnect and plug the vacuum hose of the vacuum ignition timing regulator with a stopper, start the engine at idle. There is no need to turn off the KR engine, just let it idle. On the 9A engine, check the trouble codes and correct them if necessary, then set the engine to idle.
Step 5
Direct the strobe light into the viewing hole of the clutch housing. When the ignition is correctly installed, the mark you made on the flywheel will align with the mark on the cheekbone section located at the bottom of the inspection hole.
Step 6
If the ignition is not set correctly, correct its angle. To do this, loosen the mounting bolt of the distributor holder and turn its housing so that the marks are aligned. Then fasten the housing with a bolt.
Step 7
Turn off the engine. Close the inspection hole with a plug. Unplug and remove the stroboscope. Reconnect the temperature sensor and the ignition timing vacuum hose.
