The hood is one of the most vulnerable places in a car. Scratches and dirt are commonplace. But, most often, dents form on the hood. The reason may be both your inattention and accidental circumstances - a fallen apple, a lump of snow, etc. You can contact a service station or get rid of the dent yourself.
Necessary
- - a boiler or electric kettle;
- - building hair dryer;
- - thermal protection for hands (mittens);
- - warm room (garage);
- - screwdriver;
- - thermometer.
Instructions
Step 1
Begin your bonnet repair by checking the safety measures. Make sure your hands are protected as you will have to deal with a construction hairdryer and hot water. Once you are sure that you are fully protected, start repairing!
Step 2
Remove the hood from the car body using a screwdriver. Now you need to understand what material it is made of. As a rule, hoods are made of metal, so it is impossible to straighten it without preliminary procedures. To bend the dent without damage, you must first heat the hood.
Step 3
Heat the hood with a building dryer. Then heat the hood with water. Heat water to 40-50⁰C and pour water into the dent. Also water the surface of the hood within a radius of 20-30 cm from the dent. Let the water warm up for three minutes.
Step 4
Repeat this procedure 5-6 times, increasing the water temperature by 5 ° C. This is necessary in order for the metal to warm up well. Now try to press down on the dent and try to gently squeeze it out. If it does not work out, then it is worth repeating watering with water, starting at a temperature of 40-50⁰С. Usually two cycles are sufficient, if not, repeat the douche 3-4 times.
Step 5
Now place the hood so that it rests against something, and press on the dent. After the hood has returned to its original shape, leave it in a cool, dry place for a couple of days. After the expiration date, you can reinstall the hood on the car.
