If you don't have a car, but you have a car radio, you can use it at home. True, it will not be able to work at full capacity. But the sound quality will provide quite decent, and all its functions will work no worse than in the car.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase or assemble a power supply with an output voltage of 12 V. If it is unregulated, then even at idle, the voltage at its output should under no circumstances exceed 14 V. The load capacity of the unit may be small, and the power is much less than the maximum power consumption radio tape recorder. It's just that the radio tape recorder will not be able to develop the maximum output power. But this can be done only if the unit has reliable protection against excess current consumption, and this function is mainly provided by stabilized units. Connect the power supply unit without protection through a fuse for 0.5 A. If you intend to receive stations not only on VHF, but also on other bands, do not use a pulse unit.
Step 2
Find the pinout of its connector in the instructions for the radio or on the Internet. Sometimes it is indicated directly on the body of the device. Connect the power supply to the radio in accordance with the indicated polarity. Connect the standby power wire parallel to the positive one. Remember that in some cases, when the power supply is disconnected, the machine will lose its settings.
Step 3
Connect as many speakers to the radio tape recorder as it is designed for. You can also find the way to connect them in the instructions, on the Internet or on the case. The speaker impedance should be no less than that for which the device is designed. Their power, when using a power supply with a current limitation, say, up to 0.5 A, can be much lower. With a powerful power supply, use speakers rated for the full power output of the radio.
Step 4
Set the volume on the radio tape recorder to minimum, then turn on the power supply and the device itself. If the design of the radio does not provide for volume control without turning it on, do this for the first time: turn on the device for the first time without speakers, reduce the volume to zero with the buttons, then turn off the power, connect the speakers and turn it on again.
Step 5
Connect the antenna to the radio. At home, it can be just a piece of wire about two meters long. If it is supposed to receive stations not only on VHF, the length of the antenna can be increased by a few more meters.
Step 6
Tune the radio tape recorder to the desired radio station. Turn up the volume slightly. Don't make it too big. Otherwise, if there is a fuse, it will burn out, and if the power supply is protected, it will turn off, or reduce the output voltage so much that the backlight will blink and the amplifier will wheeze. Do not forget to turn off the radio and the power supply when you are finished using the radio. Happy listening!
